London's Arsenal and Munich's Bayern have secured their places in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after navigating tense quarter-final second legs.
Arsenal drew 0-0 with Sporting CP at the Emirates Stadium, a result sufficient to see them through following their 1-0 first-leg victory in Lisbon. The English side, which managed just one shot on target during the match, will now face Atlético Madrid in the last four. This marks Arsenal's second consecutive appearance in the Champions League semi-finals, having been eliminated at this stage last season by eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.
In a thrilling encounter at the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid 4-3 to complete a 6-4 aggregate victory. The German champions' goals came from Aleksandar Pavlović (6'), Harry Kane (38'), Luis Díaz (89'), and Michael Olise in stoppage time (90+4'). For Real Madrid, Arda Güler scored twice (1', 29') and Kylian Mbappé added another (42').
The match was not without controversy. Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was sent off in the 86th minute, while Bayern manager Vincent Kompany received a yellow card on the touchline in the 44th minute, ruling him out of his team's next European fixture.
The game also saw a historic note for Real Madrid: for the first time ever, their starting lineup featured no Spanish players. Meanwhile, Harry Kane set a personal record by being directly involved in a goal for his fifth consecutive Champions League match against Real Madrid.
Bayern Munich will now face defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in their semi-final clash.
