Active commissioning work is underway at a new combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan. The facility has a design capacity of 240 MW for electricity and 277 Gcal/h for thermal energy.

The project, financed through direct private investment from the Turkish company Aksa Energy, aims to fully meet the region's electricity and heating needs.

Currently, two gas turbine units are operating around the clock, feeding 170 MW of power into the unified energy grid and providing additional generation for the country's southern zone. The commissioning of a steam turbine is planned in the near future to bring the plant to its full design capacity.

The implementation of the Kyzylorda CCGT is part of a large-scale plan by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy to modernize the nation's energy infrastructure. This year alone, a record 2.64 GW of new capacity from both traditional and renewable sources is scheduled for launch across the republic.

The annual plan includes starting up four combined-cycle plants, two wind farms, four solar power stations, and expanding capacity at two existing facilities. It is expected that these new energy assets will generate approximately 16 billion kWh of electricity annually.

These measures are projected to completely eliminate Kazakhstan's power deficit by the end of Q1 2027 and ensure a stable surplus of generating capacity by 2029.
