Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan have agreed to launch a joint environmental initiative. The program, titled "Clean Air," will be implemented under the direct patronage of the two nations' leaders.

During an informal meeting, President Tokayev expressed his full support for the initiative originally proposed by his Uzbek counterpart. He highlighted the acute relevance of air quality issues for major cities in both countries.

"I share your concern regarding the ecological situation in Tashkent," Tokayev stated. "We have a very difficult situation in Almaty. Unfortunately, Almaty has entered the list of the world's most polluted large cities, and the most urgent measures need to be taken."

In light of these shared challenges, the Kazakh leader proposed a bilateral partnership. "Therefore, if you do not object, we could propose today the joint implementation of the 'Clean Air' initiative under the patronage of the presidents and executed by the governments of our two countries," he said.

Tokayev expressed confidence that such a high-level cooperative effort would be well-received. He believes it will encourage greater responsibility from local authorities and businesses in protecting the environment.

The Kazakh president also took the opportunity to thank President Mirziyoyev for the traditionally warm reception and high level of organization during their meeting.
