A significant step has been taken in the development of Kazakhstan's transport infrastructure. During a visit by a Kazakh delegation to Washington, D.C., a financing agreement for the construction of the "Karaganda – Zhezkazgan" highway was signed at the headquarters of the World Bank.
The agreement was concluded between JSC "National Company "KazAvtoZhol", the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). This partnership underscores the project's international importance and scale.
The new 457-kilometer road is designed to enhance regional connectivity, boost transit potential, and stimulate economic growth in Central Kazakhstan. Key expected benefits include a significant reduction in travel time, improved road safety, and a positive impact on logistics.
The total loan amount for the project is 650 billion tenge. Competitive tender procedures are currently in their final stages. Project design and construction are scheduled to begin this year, with work expected to commence imminently.
Beyond improving transportation, the initiative is projected to increase the region's investment appeal and create new jobs, providing a substantial impetus for the development of Central Kazakhstan.
